this and that

THIS

My baby girl is ten months old. I CAN NOT believe I just typed that! And I CAN NOT believe we're creeping that much closer to her first birthday. I think back to this time last year, just a couple months shy of Austyn being born, and I was filled with so much anticipation, excitement, and fear. What was motherhood really going to be like? I've heard many moms say that around the six month mark things really start getting fun with your little one....I couldn't agree more. To be totally honest, as much as the first few months were really special and I wouldn't trade them for anything, I mostly felt like it was nonstop nursing. Oh wait, it was nonstop nursing. Austyn refused to take a bottle or pacifier (we really tried!) so until we introduced solids her every meal came from me. Consequently, the feeling of being "trapped" was pretty intense. I really have enjoyed breastfeeding and hope to make it to the one year mark, but once Austyn started eating solid food and was more playful and interactive...that's when things changed for me.

I wake up each morning with total anticipation. Each day she seems to be doing something new and it's so exciting to watch. She's determined to learn and has to be a part of everything that I'm doing. Austyn could be passed out asleep in the car, but as soon as we walk into a store she's wide awake. Miss out on all the commotion, new smells, colors, and people watching? Not this girl. She plays hard and sleeps hard. Thank goodness for that sleeping part, otherwise I don't think I could keep up with her. Sometimes her super independent, restless, spitfire personality really scares the crap out of me. Then I think about how blessed I am to have such a curious, ambitious little girl who is healthy and loved by so many. What more could I ask for?!

THAT

If you follow me on Instagram then you have heard about my new exciting business called Blush Creek, a furniture and decor rental boutique for weddings and other special events in western Idaho. I have been so excited about this the last month or so that I have seriously lost sleep at night. The excitement can't be shut off! I'll be spending the summer building our inventory, which you can follow here, as well as creating a website, marketing materials, and research opportunities for advertising. I plan to start booking events maybe by the end of the year, but more likely early 2015. I'll have a post with more details on Blush Creek soon and look forward to sharing pictures of our new rental items!

Speaking of Instagram, I really like how Heather from Finding Beauty In The Ordinary calls it a "mini-blog". While it's great to come back here and create a more personal post and conversation, the quick and easy connection it provides is just plain awesome. In fact, I just realized I don't even call myself a blogger anymore. And I'm okay with that. It was a wonderful experience and fun chapter in my life, but the winds of change have swept through and my passions have led me elsewhere. I actually love this blog more now that I know I can stop in occasionally with a relaxed post like this one and then get back to my other responsibilities. And as a small business owner, local furniture store vendor, wife, and stay at home mom, I sure have plenty of other responsibilities!

I hope you all are doing well and that Spring is starting to show up on your doorsteps, happy Tuesday!

life lately

I apologize for the small, blurry images. I'm blogging from my iPad and just can't figure out how to upload pictures!

To get right to the point, the break from blogging I have taken the last few months was just what I needed. It allowed me to take a breather and really live in the moments with my nine month old (seriously?!) baby girl. I feel like I truly found a good balance. I've been reading "A Mary Heart in a Martha World" and boy has it hit home. It has helped me put into perspective the amount of time and effort I put into things that really shouldn't get so much of my time and effort. I feel like I'm one of those people that can juggle a lot of things at the same time, but then those things only get a percentage of my attention and effort. I would always feel like I was coming up short. So.....I started taking things off my plate. I simplified. And it feels good!

Austyn is 9 and half months old and such an adorable little spitfire! She is eager to learn and discover the world around her. We have introduced a variety of foods and she has proved to be an excellent eater, even preferring vegetables over fruit! I am still breastfeeding and am shooting for that one year mark unless she decides to wean herself. She can clap, wave hello and goodbye, has two teeth, loves to say "ruff ruff" at our dogs, and has begun to army crawl. The church nursery has been a big challenge for us though. I haven't seen a service in over a month because she gets really upset once she realizes mom has left her. I know it will just take time, I won't give up!

We have had a few teasing days of warm sunshine here in Idaho that have been so lovely. Austyn and I take the dogs to the park and take full advantage of the beautiful weather, because it seems to only stick around for a day or two. I'm dreaming of sipping sweet tea on our back porch and getting my hands dirty potting flowers and herbs. Also looking forward to garage sale season....this girl LOVES her garage sales.

If I'm not spending my time changing diapers or playing with Austyn, than you can probably find me painting furniture. If you follow me on Instagram you have probably seen all my projects! I have been really happy with the amount of painting I have accomplished in a short period of time (a personal goal for me) and have been selling my work at a local furniture shop. Painting is so therapeutic for me and I'm pushing myself to get better. I've ordered a spray gun and can't wait to complete more projects in shorter time.

Last weekend my family and I took a roadtrip up into the mountains to celebrate my brother getting married (hooray!). On the way home I had a good long talk with my hubby about my business and future goals I hope to accomplish. Anyone else have their best brainstorming while on a roadtrip?! Well, I'm really excited to say I have decided to pursue a dream for my business that I believe fits well with my role as a mom and wife. I will be announcing it soon on this blog and can't wait to see what you all think about it! Hint: think weddings!

Thanks to all of you who have been so supportive of my "blog break" and continue to check back to see if I'm still alive. I know my blog content isn't for everyone and that I've gone through a few seasons of change (what blogger hasn't?). I know it's all been for the best and I'm just grateful that this little blog and all you wonderful peeps are still here when I come back. So thank you!

coral, shades of blue, and a touch of gold

Since moving into our new home in April, I've felt like our living room has looked "unfinished". The neutral and shades of blue pallete was starting to feel like it was missing something. I decided what this space needed was another color to compliment all furnishings and d├ęcor in shades of turquoise, mint, and navy. Coral was the first color to come to mind and flecks of gold throughout also helped make our living room feel more inviting. For a long time I have been wanting a soft, stylish, tufted ottoman that would fit well with our space and our couch. So my jaw pretty much dropped when I saw this perfect one from Gordmans. I love the pattern and coziness! Gordmans offers a big selection of name brand clothes, shoes, jewelry at up to 60 percent off every day. Be sure to get THIS 20% off coupon for any single item!

Of course, I did a lot of DIY work as well! I spray painted picture frames coral, stenciled a floral pattern onto the lampshade, and sewed all the curtains, pillows, and table runner. I was having a hard time finding gold accents that I liked, so I finally just bought a can of spray paint in gold and picked a few items to add the touch of glimmer I was going for.

So what do you think?! Do you like the color choices?
Have a great Tuesday!

our kids playroom reveal

Since Michael and I moved into our new home almost a year ago our bonus room upstairs has pretty much been empty. We threw around a few thoughts on what to do with the space. A man cave? Family room? Craft room/office? Guest room? It really didn't take long for us to decide it was the perfect space for kids to play and learn while the adults could relax (it's a pretty big room). What DID take a long time was actually getting around to creating such a space.

Even though we just have one child right now we have lots of nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends with kids who like to stop by, so I've been pretty anxious to complete the space and watch people enjoy it!

I knew I wanted something to encourage the kiddos to read, to interact, to learn, and most of all to have fun! Like usual, most of what I used I already had...it just needed to be organized and displayed in a functional way. What I needed was help from Gordmans!

Gordmans offers a big selection of name brand clothes, shoes, jewelry at up to 60 percent off every day. They also have the best selection for home decor, which is where I found a lot of goodies for this space. When I saw the geometrical black and white beanbags I instantly fell in love! I had to have them. They're perfect for watching a movie or sitting at the kids table with a coloring book. I also found the colorful golden retriever flower artwork at Gordmans. Couldn't be more perfect for our home!

If you're like me and needing a little something to complete a space in your home or if you're needing a whole makeover than Gordmans is your place. Their new, interactive website has a lookbook that you gotta check out and they have an awesome loyalty card program where you can earn reward certificates and discounts. Be sure to get THIS 20% off coupon for any single item!

So what do you think of the playroom?! I can't wait for the kiddos test it out. I'm sure it will be an ever-changing room as they grow, but I'm so happy to have created this space for them.

Happy Tuesday!

recap and blogging in 2014

Well hello again! I can't believe how fast the holidays went and we are already almost a week into 2014. Unbelievable.

2013 was full of special, unforgettable moments. A trip to Hawaii, my sweet golden retriever having puppies, buying a home, moving to the country, and welcoming our sweet baby girl into the world were our highlights. I'm not sure 2014 can top that, but God does work in mysterious ways!

I honestly thought taking a long break from blogging over the holidays would give me some clarity on what I wanted to do in the new year regarding this blog. Turns out I'm still not so sure. I do know that I'm no longer going to spend time thinking about what I should post about just to post something. As a new mom of an almost 7 month old (who is really growing and moving!) my free time is limited and I can see that it's just going to become more that way. I'm also putting the majority of my free time into my furniture business. I felt like I was spreading myself too thin, expecting too much. Consequently, everything (and everyone) was only getting a small piece of me. I thought about not only what is best for me and my family, but also what makes sense financially and what is realistic to pursue as a new mom with a baby. It easily came down to my Rustic Living furniture business and the decision to give it 100% of my efforts.

So I think it's fair to say this blog won't be getting near the attention I used to give it, but I don't think I'm completely abandoning it either. I'm grateful for the opportunities and relationships it has brought me the last two years. I wouldn't change a thing.

I feel like this post was a lot of rambling...maybe I'm a bit rusty from blogging! My little girl is waking up from her nap anyways so I'm wrapping it up. I hope you all enjoyed the close of 2013 and the welcoming of new opportunities and goals in the new year. I'll be seeing you!
